N4: Ernest Solien (Died September 6, 2006) Ernest Herman Solien, the son of Hannah (Dedrue) and Einar Solien, was born on August 22, 1921 in Baudette, MN. Ernie joined the CCC Camps in Blackduck, MN at the age of 16. He also worked at the Arnesen's Fishery and the Pulp Mill in International Falls, MN before entering the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served during WWII, until his honorable discharge in 1945. He returned to Minnesota for a few years, before moving to Oregon. He worked as the Head Custodian in the Clackamas School District, retiring in 1984. He returned to Roosevelt and married Marjorie Turner in 1988 and made their home north of Roosevelt. The past two years, they have lived in Roosevelt with Marjorie's mother, Jessie Mae Znajda. Ernie loved to hunt and fish, work in his yard and garden, and woodworking. He was a real outdoorsman and an all-around handyman. He will be remembered for his fun-loving spirit, his ability to tell good stories, and his sense of humor. Ernest Solien passed away on September 6, 2006 at the North Country Regions Hospital in Bemidji at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Roosevelt; 3 sisters, Mabel Svitak, Mae Sutherland, and Edna Sutherland; children, Lois Pierre, Mandi Machinski, Peggy Hilton and Rocky Solien all of Oregon; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and 5 step-children, Terry Berger, Mike Johnson, Lenny Johnson, Spencer Johnson and Jean LaVe. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Herb and sister, Nora Draper-Hanson. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 9th at 3 PM at the Roosevelt American Legion Hall in Roosevelt. Interment will be at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Roosevelt. Military rites by the Roosevelt American Legion. Helgeson Funeral Chapel has charge of arrangements. (N516)
